As autumn approaches, Laurel Valley Plantation continues its mission to preserve and share the rich, complex history of South Louisiana’s agricultural heritage. But keeping history alive isn't something we can do alone. Our success depends entirely on community involvement, dedicated volunteers, and local vendors.
Here is why stepping up as a volunteer or vendor this season makes a direct impact:
Sustain a Living History Landmark: Laurel Valley is the largest surviving 19th-century sugar cane plantation complex in the nation. Every tour guided, event staffed, and door opened at the Store is powered by people who care about keeping this historic site accessible to schools, travelers, and locals.
Support the Local Cultural Economy: Local artisans, crafters, and food vendors are the heartbeat of the Plantation Store. Hosting local vendors helps keep regional traditions alive, supports area small businesses, and gives visitors an authentic taste of Cajun country.
Ensure Long-Term Preservation: As a non-profit historic site, revenue generated through the Store and community-led events directly funds continuous preservation, structural maintenance, and educational programming.
